Payments are sent via the Pingit app — by keying in the recipient’s phone number and specifying the amount you want to send. However, if you key in the wrong number accidently your transfer may end up with the wrong recipient. Barclays have made it clear that they are not responsible for money gifted in error but if you inform them as soon as possible they will ‘attempt’ to recover the funds.
