HP has announced they are giving their WebOS to the open source community to advance a ‘new generation of application and devices’. HP says they will also continue to invest in the project. This development was not an unexpected one the HP TouchPad, launched in April 2010, was withdrawn from sale after receiving mixed reviews.
The technology was originally designed by Palm and was welcomed by developers but was not met with the same enthusiasm by consumers. It is thought that now HP has donated the technology to the open source community, developers will be attracted on mass.
